My professor for my senior design class is senile I swear. He is obsessed with flutter phenomenon even when it doesn’t apply. The best part of our class is the design options for the semester were drawn up by a guy who isn’t an engineer. He’s just some ex-military guy who wants to run this company. My friend, who is the only actual engineer with the company, had no input into the projects. Hopefully we can wrangle a decent project out of this but no guarantees yet.

I couldn’t sleep at all 2 nights ago and only got 3 tonight. No good reason I was in bed both nights but couldn’t fall asleep. So I’m looking at out of the last 72 hours only 3 were asleep. This should be a party.

The concept of Life has been bothering me lately. It’s been easy to define from a historical basis but when you realize that our old definitions are basically religious then a redifinition becomes necessary. Then I start wondering if a person who didn’t have the historical viewpoint that we are all tought would wind up with the same definitions for life. When you go look at modern definitions for life, e.g. the wiki article on it, I start wondering how long it can really be till we create artificial life. We already have simulations that can satisfy all the criteria. Life seems like an easy thing to define untill you look closer. Also I feel I’ve been powerfully ineloquent here but I hope the idea gets across. I just wonder if we’ll redefine what we classify as life. If a simulation meets all the criteria is it life? Why in some definitions do we restrict it to enzymatic carbon based life. We are almost guaranteed that if we do find life elsewhere it won’t resemble ourselves in the least so I think a new definition is needed.
